Dressing up for the Holidays: Why you can and why you should

Black tie is about the pinnacle of tailored men’s style. There are plenty of examples of iconic black tie wearers; Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, and of course the many iterations of James Bond. But what occasion still demands it in this turbulent time? Any and every occasion, of course! Let’s break this down, shall we?

Black tie has a long and rich history. A dress code that’s so laden with heritage is nothing to sneeze at. There’s plenty of rules to the black-tie game, but we’re no sticklers for it. We’ve delved into these rules and its history in a previous blog post. Much of what is said there still rings true, but we can’t deny that the circumstances have changed, drastically so, especially for black tie. With events cancelled, the holiday parties that would be perfect for black tie are off the table. But especially now, it’s so nice to be able to wear something special. We’re advocating wearing black tie whenever you damn well please. Make your own occasions. 

A candlelit dinner at home, drinks at friends, a trip to the cinema, or maybe just for an evening stroll. You’d be surprised how liberating it can feel to wear tailored clothing again, to put in the effort. No one’s going to question someone’s motives for wearing black tie, especially in the comfort of your own home. Playing dress-up is a great way to escape, if only for a moment.  

To us, black tie has never been about the stuffy restrictions. It’s always been, as all clothing should be, about personal expression. Dressing up in something formal makes you feel, as anyone who’s ever done it can attest, like a million bucks. So why not do it whenever you want? This season, like any season, we offer a tuxedo in classic black and a more adventurous midnight blue. Pair it with our bow tie, tuxedo shirt with studs and new patent leather tuxedo shoes. Treat yourself to luxury. It’s a great feeling, and feeling good is something we don’t want to be in short supply of right now. Dress you very best, behave your very worst; no one will give a damn.
